The journal "History and Archives" is the heir of the journal "Records Management. Archives Administration", which was being published since 2006.

In 2015 the journal “Records Management. Archives Administration” was merged with another one – “Computer Science. Data Protection. Mathematics”. The newly formed journal received name of the series "Records Management and Archival Studies.

Computer Science. Data Protection and Information Security", which became the immediate predecessor of the journal "History and Archives". The main content of the journal was devoted to the relevant scientific problems of historical archives, document management, informatics, information security and information protection:

• the archive as a basic element of the information infrastructure of historical science;
  
  
• changes in the activities of archives associated with the introduction of new information technologies, and the disclosure of the mission of archives in the rapidly changing environment of the information society;
  
  
• analysis of problems of formation, acquisition, storage, description and use of documentary heritage in the interests of historical science;
  
  
• theoretical and practical problems of computer science;
  
  
• information security and information protection issues.

The goal of the journal, therefore, was to create an interdisciplinary space that would enhance the level of scientific research and analysis of innovative approaches in the field of archival science, document management, informatics, information security, and especially information security in the humanitarian sphere.
