В статье на основании неопубликованных и впервые введенных в научный оборот источников показан процесс организации архива Штаба Отдельного корпуса жандармов (ШОКЖ), насчитывающий несколько этапов. На первом этапе архив фактически не был отделен от делопроизводства и не имел особого заведующего, что стало причиной беспорядка и приводило к необходимости регулярных полномасштабных проверок. Новый этап в жизни архива наметился с учреждением должности начальника архива ШОКЖ, первым из которых в 1853 г. стал титулярный советник Д.С. Фёдоров. Со временем, в 1874 г., должность была упразднена, однако архив находился в постоянном ведении секретаря Штаба корпуса, заведовавшего также и канцелярией. До 1899 г. должность секретаря Штаба занимали гражданские чиновники (титулярный советник Брагин, С.З. Нестеров, Л.О. Натковский). Впоследствии данную должность стали занимать исключительно офицеры Отдельного корпуса жандармов (Н.П. Старов, А.Н. Ваулин, Д.А. Правиков, Л.К. Банковский, В.Н. Лихачевский). Большинство офицеров, заведующих архивом, рассматривали должность секретаря Штаба как временную и искали возможности возглавить какое-либо жандармское управление, а потому состояние архива ШОКЖ нельзя было назвать образцовым.
The article, based on unpublished sources, shows the process of organizing the archive of the Headquarters of the Separate Corps of Gendarmes (HSCG), which consisted of several stages. At the first stage, the archive was not actually separated from the office work and had no special manager, which caused the disorder and led to the need for regular full-scale inspections. A new stage in the life of the archive was outlined with the establishment of the post of the chief of the archive of the HSCG, the first of which in 1853 was the titular adviser DS. Fedorov. Over time, in 1874, the post was abolished, but the archive was constantly under authority of the Secretary of the Corps Headquarters, who was also in charge of the Chancery. Until 1899, the post of Secretary of the Staff was occupied by civil servants (titular adviser Bragin, SZ Nesterov, LO Natkovsky). Subsequently, this position was taken exclusively by the officers of the Separate Corps of Gendarmes (NP Starov, AN Vaulin, DA Pravikov, LK Bankovsky, VN Likhachevsky). Most of these officers considered the post of secretary of the headquarters as temporary and looked for opportunities to head any gendarme department, and therefore the state of the archive could not be called exemplary.
